Ganga Mahotsav

Similar to Loy Krathong, the Ganga Mahotsav Festival is celebrated mostly across India on ‘Dev Deepawali‘/’Kartik Poornima the full moon in the Hindu month of Kartik; thus today 22nd November 2018. It is another event where there is the veneration of the river – Ganges. The sight is the same as Loy Krathong with an offering of flower, incense and ‘Diyas’ or earthen lamps which are lit up humbly across lines of stairs.https://i2.wp.com/www.theholidayindia.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Ganga-Mahotsav-28.jpg?w=750

At a point all the priests stand in a row and blow the conch shells. Mantras are also sung accompanied by some musical instruments. People would take a dip in the Ganges with the intention of washing away all sins and starting life afresh.
